Networking Careers for Diploma & Polytechnic Students

Networking is one of the friendliest IT fields for diploma holders: CCNA has no degree requirement, employers here test hands-on skill over paper qualifications, and a polytechnic student with real lab hours regularly out-interviews degree holders who only know theory.

Why networking suits diploma students

Many IT careers quietly filter for degrees. Networking largely doesn't — certifications and demonstrable skill carry the interview. A diploma (EC/CE/IT or even other branches) plus CCNA plus genuine practice on real routers and switches is a hiring-ready profile at 19–20 years old, years ahead of the degree route.

The realistic path

  1. CCNA (3–4 months, ₹21,000) — foundations + real-device lab practice
  2. First role — technical support / NOC / junior network engineer (₹3–5 LPA typical entry)
  3. Grow — experience + CCNP moves you into the ₹6–12 LPA band; some continue a degree part-time alongside work

Frequently asked questions

Can diploma students do CCNA?

Yes — CCNA has no degree or stream requirement. Diploma students from EC, CE, IT and other branches complete it successfully.

Will companies hire a diploma holder with CCNA?

Yes — networking roles hire heavily on certification plus demonstrable hands-on skill. Support, NOC and junior engineer roles are realistic first steps.

Should I do a degree first or CCNA first?

CCNA first gets you earning years earlier; many students then pursue a degree part-time while working. Both together is the strongest long-term profile.

What is the total investment?

₹21,000 for training (payment terms confirmed in writing) plus Cisco's exam fee (~$300) when you book the certification exam.
